Born-Free 5 Invited Builder Series-Mike Pilaczynski

Mike Pilaczynski from Yuba City, California and his shop Old STF is a new face to the Invited Builders at the Born-Free Vintage Chopper and Classic Cycles Show this year. Mike is well steeped in vintage Harley-Davidsons thanks to the Elder Pilczynski who has been passing knowledge to his son since he was born.
We pursued Mike as an invited builder after seeing his new swingarm panhead build online and then in the Show Class Magazine/Born-Free "People's Champ" competition. Somewhere Mike didn't make it through a stage of their online voting, but we know a good thing when we see one and gave Mike a call.
Come see Mike's finished bike June 29, 2013 at Born-Free 5 and don't forget, you could take home Mike's panhead or your choice of one 17 other amazing custom motorcycles!

Born-Free 5 Invited Builder Series - Joey Cano

Joey Cano of San Antonio, Texas is a new invited builder for Born-Free in 2013. JOey's DIY, garage-built ethos is a big part of what the Born-Free Vintage Chopper and Classic Cycle show is all about. You don't have to have a big fancy shop in LA, a cable TV show, or your own line of clothes to be a passionate motorcycle builder!
Joey's 1947 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead EL chopper is heavily influenced from the late 1960's show bikes and will be one to look for at Born-Free 5. You also have the chance to win Joey's motorcycle June 29, 2013 at the show!

Born-Free 5 Invited Builder Series - Kiyo

Born-Free 5 Invited Builder Kiyo of Gardena, California is one of those rare people that can make metal and machine do exactly as he wants. He can make anything run and create just about anything from scratch as well as be there to win on race day. His rigid Japanese background is no surprise when you learn his work ethic and creativity.
For Born-Free 5 he is building from nothing a turbo charged 1974 Honda CB750 that is heavily inspired by drag and land speed racing. You could take his bike or your choice of 17 others home if you win June 29, 2013 at Born-Free 5!

Born-Free 5 Invited Builder Series-Trent Shara of Atomic Customs

Trent Shara of Atomic Customs is a first time invited builder to Born-Free after showing up at Born-Free 4 with a crazy cool Harley Knucklehead chopper that was different from the rest. It is also far from Trent's first rodeo as he has been building custom motorcycles for many years at his place in a remote area of New Mexico.
Trent is building an early generator Shovelhead motor in a rigid wishbone frame chopper that is sure to be clean and a hard runner. You could win Trent' bike or your choice of 17 other bikes on June 29, 2013 at Born-Free 5!

Chops & Bobbers No.5 Kustom Lane Gallery

When it comes to art exhibitions, it simply doesn't get much cooler than Chops 'N' Bobbers. Kustom Lane Gallery are gearing for the fourth annual instalment of the incredibly popular display of all that is vintage motorcycles, with an extensive range of simply beautiful two-wheeled machines complemented by artworks inspired by the theme.

"Chops 'N' Bobbers is pretty much based around all pre-1975 bikes. So Triumphs, Harleys - that sort of style of bike in that they can either be restored, or generally most of them tend to be modified," explains curator Tony Peake. "But they're modified in the traditional way, they're not modified like a modern day chopper with all these bolt-on bits and pieces, but basically all of the bikes have to be built by the person who owns them. So like they're all done in the traditional way, so you scrounge and you find bits and pieces and you add stuff onto it, you just don't ring up a catalogue mob and just bolt a bit on, if you know what I mean." He explains further. "So we're reasonably strict on what sort of bikes we put in. We tend to get around about 16-18 bikes in the gallery, and then they are displayed along with complementary artwork, it's the motorcycle and the art together. The Chops 'N' Bobbers means the choppers [modified bikes that have been chopped up], it's whether they're a Cafe Racer style thing. Or just a typical street bike that has been restored or whatever it might be. And then we generally get a couple of other guys that have got a, I guess you would call it a 'barn find' type bike, which is a bike that has been sitting in someone's backyard for years and years and years that they have just dragged out and bring it along, and that's how they found it, if you know what I mean."

Born-Free 5 Invited Builder Series-Len Higa of Oni Motoworks

Len Higa is a new invited builder at Born-Free, but he has won more awards than anyone since Born-Free started. Len doesn't build choppers or bobbers, he builds café racers (for lack of a better term). Len is a talented fabricator and hand crafts much of the bikes he builds which are mostly vintage Honda based.
This year he is building a rare 1969 Honda CB750 with a highly sought after "sandcast" engine. Its the farthest thing from a Craigslist "café racer" with clubman bars and a flat seat on a junky old XS650.
